FOR the next six weeks Thurrock foodbank is setting a challenge to local people: support us by giving up something small and donating what you save to the foodbank. You can do it with your work colleagues, family and groups of friends. For example, you could give up putting sugar in your tea and give a 1k bag of sugar to foodbank, or not eat biscuits and donate a packet or two instead. You’ll feel better and be able to help others at the same time.
There is a huge need in our area for emergency food provision and Thurrock foodbank has already provided food to over 700 people in the borough since it opened its doors last July. But there is a constant requirement for food, which is all generously donated by local people.
The six-week challenge until Easter coincides with the period of Lent, which is traditionally a time of fasting or giving up certain types of luxuries. There are lots of different ideas on what you could do at thurrock.foodbank.org.uk so see how you can help.
Alternatively you could commit to donate 40p a day for 40 days, which will help buy more food.
