Celebrate our authors at Thurrock Writers Festival

THURROCK libraries are planning to celebvrate the success of all the borough’s authors.

The first Thurrock Writers Festival will celebrate and encourage creative writing among local people.

All published local authors are invited to the Saturday Showcase on 18 May – between 10am and 4pm – where they can display and sell their published books.

If you are a published local writer and want to reserve a free space at Grays Library for the Showcase event contact Rachel Gallehawk, senior librarian for a booking form. As space is limited bookings will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

There is also the chance to be involved in free workshops. Choose to join Thurrock Writer’s Circle in their short-story workshop, or meet acclaimed saga writer Jean Fullerton who will share her own writing tips and experiences, and find out from Michael Casey (www.yourthurrock.com) about how to build up an online news community.

Spaces can be booked by contacting Grays library on 01375 413977.

Hopeful authors can also take the opportunity to flex their writing muscles by entering the free short story and poetry competition to win Waterstones book tokens with entries being judged by members of the Thurrock Writer’s Circle and library staff.

Application forms, terms and conditions are available from libraries and the competition closes on 19 April.
