THE STAFF AT the Thurrock foodbank were once again out and about in the borough collecting food and other goods.
The staff took up position at the front of Sainsburys in Chafford Hundred last Saturday.
The collection was the culmination of a week of activities by the dedicated and hardworking Foodbank team.

Should we a a nation be proud that some are in so much poverty, despite the social security safety net, that people have to go cap in hand to food banks?
I’m not attacking the good work they do, but we no live in a society where cuts to housing benefit, council tax support and sanctioned social security payments, mean desperate people are having to turn to charities just to feed themselves.
I would be happy when the last one closed when there were no longer starving people on our streets, but I fear in the coming years the demand for the services offered by food banks will far outstrip the supply they are able to deliver.
