Athletics: A high for Khai as Thurrock athletes shine

ONLY a few weeks ago, Thurrock’s Khai Riley-Laborde told YT that he was struggling to get to grips with moving up from 100 metre hurdles to 110 metres.

However, the Purfleet teenager recorded an amazing 14.3 in his first race of the season in Basildon.

Khai competes for Enfield & Haringey.

Many other Thurrock athletes who compete for a number of clubs are the county were in action.

Grays’ Tom Head (Newham & Essex Beagles) was second in the hammer throw with a personal best distance of 58.05m

Stanford-le-Hope’s Tom Richardson competes for Basildon AC and continued his good start to the track season with a middle-distance double of 1m 58.91s for the 800m and 4m 3.29s for the 1,500m.

Richardson’s Basildon AC team-mate Sophie Crofts, from Chafford Hundred, ran a respectable 5m 53.52 in the 1500m

Tilbury’s Robbie Clarricoats (U20) has also stepped up to 110m hurdles and ran a PB of 15.1s and the 400m hurdles in 57.4s

Aveley’s Josh Olawore (U20) also produced a very impressive leap in the Long Jump. Josh went over seven metres for the first time this season to win the long jump (7.05m)
