Energy Switch winners: An extra £100 in the pocket of Thurrock residents

THURROCK Council’s collective energy switching scheme closed at midnight on Monday 8 April and across the seven areas taking part more than 160,000 people expressed an interest – the largest scheme of its kind so far.

The auction of various providers took place on the 9 April and there were three winners, British Gas, Scottish Power and Sainsbury Energy (supplied by British Gas).

All those who registered an interest should have been notified with a personalised proposal and have until Wednesday 8 May (online) or 20th May (via letter) to accept or decline the offer.

The average saving has been £111 and the highest average saving was on a Dual Fuel Online tariff of £139.

Jane Dalymez from Stanford-le-hope commented: “Marvellous! In these current times, an extra £100 a year in my pocket is just what I need”.

Over 70 per cent of people who took part in the scheme could save money if they switch.

Cllr John Kent, Leader of Thurrock Council said: “I am delighted that this scheme has been such a success and I urge everyone who registered to check their emails and post to see their offer and decide if they wish to switch before the closing date.”
