THE TRANSPORT minister, Stephen Hammond MP, came to the Dartford Crossing on Tuesday morning (May 21st) to launch the consultation on the next crossing across the Thames
Option A is the site of the existing Dartford to Thurrock crossing. Option B would connect the A2 with the A1089 (near to ASDA Tilbury), while option C would join the M2 in Kent with the A13 and M25 going through Chadwell and Orsett.
Thurrock Council leader, John Kent is campaigning for a fourth option of “None of the Above”.
YT spoke to the transport minister to ask him about the options as well as the idea of free-flow tolling across the bridge.

That’s a definite NO to tolls ever then!
And we don’t have long to repeat any of our opinions.
Not that they will be taken into account anyway.
That should have read… NO to FREE tolls ever then!
New Crossing in Barking or Castle Point.
Why another crossing in Thurrock why is it Thurrock always gets lumbered with the crossings.
They won’t do it but if there was no bloody tolls half the traffic chaos would disappear. nice little cash cow though.
Where is Jackie Doyle Price when you need her. Is she going to veto any more crossings in Thurrock and make the tolls free.
The Tories will continue with this crossing nonsense as the Tory bigwigs do not particularly care about winning Thurrock at the next GE. Anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that it would be a vote winner to lift the tolls and the fee. That would help businesses much more than wasting public funds on another crossing so close by.
I think JDP is powerless on this issue. No matter how much she may want no tolls or any new crossings this government are going to do what they want because they know what’s best.
This whole idea was started under the last Labour Government and continued by the coalition – this means all three main parties support another lower Thames crossing. It isn’t a case of if – it’s a case of when and where.
