OPPORTUNITY Thurrock has won and award in the community category at an Essex Business Awards event.
Opportunity Thurrock was the first borough wide careers and higher education event of its kind in Thurrock. A collaborative event between all Thurrock secondary schools, Colleges and Thurrock Council, it was supported by over 90 businesses, universities and training providers who were able to provide information, advice and guidance to over 3000 young people and their families who passed through its doors.
Taking place at the Civic Hall in Grays in October last year, it was a huge success and instrumental in shaping careers guidance for young people in the borough and opening their eyes to the huge array of opportunities available to them.
Co-ordinated by Neil Coates, 14-19 Development Manager, South Essex College and Sally Feeney, Assistant Headteacher, Gable Hall School with support from Mike Sinden, Thurrock Council and Debbie Doyle, William Edwards, the event was a triumph with Thurrock headteachers calling for Opportunity Thurrock to be an annual event.
Opportunity Thurrock has received a high recommended award at the Thurrock Business Awards as well as winning the community category at the Essex business awards. These awards further endorse Opportunity Thurrock and it is hopped will attract even more high quality local businesses to the event this year, which is planned to be held at High House Production Park in Purfleet on Wednesday 2nd October”.
