VOLUNTEERS’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK – and it’s taking place from the 1-7 June 2013.
ngage – the community organisation and Volunteer Centre for Thurrock – would like to say a big thank you to all the people who currently volunteer in Thurrock. They want to encourage Thurrock organisations who use volunteers to recognise the valuable contribution that their volunteers are making, and to ensure that they also say a big thank you.
Laura Hudson, ngage Volunteer Coordinator said “Volunteers make such a difference to a number of groups and organisations in Thurrock, and their generosity, hard work and commitment is much appreciated. It is important that organisations support Volunteers Week and say thank you to their volunteers. Suggestions could include awarding certificates, buying lunch, or even taking their volunteers out. ngage are saying thank you to our volunteers by spoiling them with a strawberry and cream tea afternoon”.
ngage will be launching a new project in Volunteers Week called ‘VC Local’, which is a pilot scheme for smaller satellite volunteer centres across Thurrock. VC Local is being launched on Tuesday 4th June, 10am –1pm at the South Ockendon Centre in Derry Avenue, and ngage are encouraging local residents, organisations and businesses to pop in and speak to Laura about volunteering opportunities within the local area.
“We really do hope that people come along and find out what opportunities are available locally. We would also like people to identify areas for local volunteering schemes”.
ngage are currently registering volunteers to help out at some of the community events this year, including T Fest which takes place on the 27th and 28th July.
