MP Jackie backs the “Good Life” at Tilbury free school

THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle-Price has visited Gateway Academy to see the progress of the construction works for the new Free School and the expanded places at the Academy.

The free school is registered on Companies House as The Good Life Free School, and they were certainly getting down to business as the MP and Conservative group education spokesperson visited the Tilbury school.

Jackie said, “I am delighted to see the progress being made. Gateway Academy is determined to offer a school place to all children in Tilbury who want one. The establishment of the new free school as a feeder for the Academy and the expanded number of places that the new build will deliver will make that vision a reality.

Gateway Academy is one of the best examples of how the freedoms afforded by Academy status means that the school leadership teams can innovate and determine for themselves how best to serve their local community. If there is demand for places they can expand. I am sure that this will lead to fewer children being bussed cross the borough to Stanford-le Hope as Gateway steps up to the plate to ensure that the children of Tilbury get the education they deserve.”

Conservative education spokesman, Councillor James Halden said “Parents in Thurrock are voting with their feet. A free school is a great example of the community galvanising to get the best for their children, which they simply don’t think the council can deliver. I’m looking forward to the opening of this school, and hopefully others. The Gateway group have my total confidence”.
