Grays man in court over suspected £5.8 million VAT fraud

TWO directors of companies associated with the supply of labour to the rail industry have been charged in connection with a suspected VAT and Corporation Tax fraud of more than £5.8 million.

After an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), Michael James Woodward (28) from Grays and Richard James Ponsford (35) from Ongar were charged at City of London Magistrates Court today (10 July 2013).

HMRC investigators arrested both men at their home addresses on 31 March 2011 on suspicion of Cheating the Public Revenue contrary to Common Law.

They have been released on bail until 30 July 2013.
