Ryman Div One North
Tilbury 0 v 3 Witham Town
By Anthony Mercer
TILBURY started the new season with a disappointing showing at home to last season’s 4th place side Witham Town.
On a bright sunny afternoon, Tilbury gave debuts Lee Weemes, Bradley Doyle Ashley Taylor-Forbes and James Pinnock.
The game started a fast and furious pace and Joe Christou had a fine effort well blocked. In the 13th minute James Marrable tipped over an effort and from the resulting corner Tom Devaux headed in from the corner.
Captain Aaron Waters just hit wide in the 21st minute when his free kick just went passed the post from 20 yards.
Witham increased there lead in the 29th minute when a through ball fell to Jamar Dobon who beat Marrable to the ball and chipped into the net. Within 2 minutes the visitors put the game to bed when former Tilbury player Tom Wraight who was in magnificent form, was played in and shot into the net. To the players credit, he did not celebrate.
Tilbury were much improved after the break, but could not breakdown a resolute defence. With 12 minutes remaining Wraight was again through and saw his effort saved by James Marrable.
The second half was more of a stop start affair, littered with unnecessary fouls by both sides.
Tilbury are back in action on Tuesday night, when they travel to VCD with a 7.45pm kick off.
