POLICE would like to hear from anyone who saw two men acting suspiciously in London Road, Grays, after an elderly woman was threatened in her own home.
The woman was in her sitting room at around 2.40pm on Tuesday August 20 when two men entered by the open back door.
It is believed they had climbed into her back garden and picked up a spade from her lean-to before entering the house. One of the men approached her and asked her about money, whilst the second man, who was holding the spade, began opening draws and cupboards.
The woman told them there was no money and the first man then said he was going to count to 10 but didn’t make any direct threats. The victim then saw an opportunity to run out of the front door and went to a neighbour for help. By the time they returned the two men had left.
The victim was not harmed in any way and nothing other than the spade was taken. It is described as a pale grey/worn colour with a T-Bar handle grip. It was made entirely of metal and had a flat square end.
The first man is described as white, aged about 18, and 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall. He had brown eyes with dark eyebrows and dark hair. He had a small boyish face, was clean shaven, and was wearing a dark navy blue or black bottoms and top. The second man was white, with a stocky build, and was shorter than the first man. He did not have much hair and rosy cheeks. He is believed to have been wearing a blue shirt and shorts.
If anyone recognises the descriptions, saw any suspicious activity in the area, or two men carrying a spade at around that time, they are asked to call Grays CID on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
