THE Vortex Hammers suffered a heavy away defeat in the race for the coverted 4th Play off spot, going down 62-28 at The Poole Pirates in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
The Essex based team were effectively out ridden from the start with the home team delivering two 5-1s and a further heat advantage by heat 3. Only a fall by home rider Maciej Janowski n heat four allowed the Hammers to gain a shared heat, although the Pirates delivered a further 5-1 blow in the following heat, with Hammers captain Davey Watt on a tactical at the rear.
By the time Hammers top performing rider on the night, Piotr Swiderski,landed the first of only two away race wins in heat 11, the rampant Pirates were already long out of site.
Despite the result, the Hammers remain in 4th place in the Elite league, with 43 points, one ahead of the Pirates, who have also ridden one more meeting.
Ultimately points on the road are needed by The Hammers either at King’s Lynn this Wednesday or at Swindon on the 9th of September.
