Park Inn go “above and beyond” for disadvantaged kids

FROM chamber maids to managers and sous chefs to sommeliers, staff at the Park Inn by Radisson Thurrock will be joining forces with guests in September in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for Variety, the children’s charity and The World Childhood Foundation.

The hotel will kick off a range of money-raising stunts across 30 days and will battle it out with 34 other properties in umbrella group Carlson Rezidor to see who can raise the most money for one of the UK’s most famous charities and one of the world’s leading children’s charities. The aim across the group is to raise a whopping £30,000 in September.

Variety, is a children’s charity that is committed to helping sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in the UK.  For over 65 years the charity has provided much needed practical help including the provision of wheelchairs, coaches and specialist equipment. 

In particular, the organisation supports children’s hospitals, youth clubs and offers outings, special events and special treats.

The World Childhood Foundation funds local projects and works globally for children’s rights to a safe and happy childhood. All projects supported by Childhood help children at risk of abuse and exploitation.

The initiative is part of Carlson Rezidor’s Responsible Business Action Month for 2013.  As David Graham explains:
“This is a chance for everyone in the hotel to pull together as a team to raise money for a really great cause and in the process there will be a bit of competitive rivalry between ourselves and all the other hotels in our group to see who can present the biggest cheque! We know customers are very big-hearted when it comes to good causes so we expect to raise at least £1000 in 30 days.”

As a core fundraiser, Park Inn by Radisson Thurrock will invite guests and members of the community to play its charity Penny Board which sees a board with 500 squares valued from 1p to £5 placed in reception. Guests pay whatever price is on the ticket they pick for the prize draw with some great prizes up for grabs including a Dinner for 2 in RBG restaurant, a bottle of champagne, £100 of high street vouchers and, of course, a weekend stay at the Park Inn by Radisson Thurrock with dinner thrown in.

To support the cause the Management team are volunteering at a local Wildlife Park for the day and we will be selling cupcakes at our Wedding Fayre on the 15th September alongside a coin tower. The coin tower will be open for guests to donate their loose change and support us in raising money for organisations that support young people: Variety and The World Childhood Foundation.

Corporate guests can also be involved by donating 1000 of their Club Carlson points to this worthy cause.
