Football: Grays see off Romford in tense FA Cup clash

GRAYS Athletic won a tense Essex FA Cup derby 2-1 against Romford in Sunday’s early kick-off.

Grays got off to a great start in this First Round Qualifying tie as Joao Carlos scored after only seven minutes reports the FA.Com

Carlos was played through by Jeff Hammond to beat the offside trap and he went round the keeper before shooting into an empty net.

Romford, from the Ryman One North, looked the better side against their loftier hosts after the break, but could not make their good work pay.

And Grays doubled their lead against the run of play though Kenny Beaney, with just over an hour gone.

But Romford set up an exciting finish when super sub Eddie Hart pulled a goal back in the 67th minute, moments after coming on.
