Football: Dockers continue fine home form

Tilbury 4 v 1 Wroxham

TILBURY continued their very good home form with a solid victory over a disappointing Wroxham side. Manager Paul Vaughan fielded an unchanged line up for the first time this season and got off to a fine start on 6 minutes. Francis played the ball to Lee Weemes who dribbled forward before striking the ball towards goal that took a deflection and in to the net.

On 12 minutes captain Aaron Waters for the second successive year against the same opponents hit his direct corner onto the bar, where last year hit straight into the net. With the visitors constantly giving the ball away, Tilbury did not take there chances to increase the lead. On 35 Mead picked up a stay ball and hit wide of the post. With only 4 minutes to the break a Sam Cutler corner found Sam West to head home.

There was still time for Cutler to hit over the bar. Straight after the break Ryan Blackman volleyed wide, before he played an excellent splitting ball to Rimmel Daniel who ran through and firing into the roof of the net despite the best efforts of the keeper to save. Tilbury continued to dominate and Weemes headed over the top when he was a yard off the line. The visitors did come into the game and home keeper Chico Ramos had to be at his best to save from Marsden, before a cross from the right saw the ball go past Ramos and hit Conor Mead into an empty net to reduce the arrears. Wroxham had a good spell following the goal, but without come clear cut goal scoring opportunities.

With 10 minutes remaining Stephen Drake thought he had scored, but a fine Ramos save, saw the low effort tipped over. Marsden had another good effort, before substitute Tony Jacobs crossed unmarked to Danny Francis who volleyed home from 6 yards for his 5th goal in his last 4 games to confirm a resounding victory.

After the game a pleased manager Paul Vaughan said “We scored four times, but could have been more. That’s 3 of the 6 points we need over the next 2 games”
