Thurrock MP slams unions over Grangemouth

THURROCK MP, Jackie Doyle-Price rose on the floor of the House to question the unions efforts to save workers jobs in Grangemouth.

Ms Doyle-Price said: “The competitive challenges facing the refining market have been well established for a number of years and led to the closure of Petroplus in Coryton last year.

“In view of the competitive challenge, is it not regrettable that the local branch of Unite was more interested in manipulating the Labour party in Falkirk than in representing the interests of its members?

Edward Davey (Kingston and Surbiton, Liberal Democrat) replied:

“The hon. Lady asks me to comment on an issue, the details of which I am not privy to. There is a disciplinary investigation under way, which INEOS has been leading. I understand that it might publish, or at least share with Unite and the convenor involved, the results of its investigation later this week, but I do not think that it is for me to comment on that.
