Chafford cashier denies role in £3m bank fraud

A ROYAL Bank of Scotland cashier from Chafford Hundred tried to steal nearly £3m from customer accounts, the Old Bailey heard.

Derek Annan, 24, allegedly passed on personal financial details, including passwords and security details, to fraudsters while working at RBS branches in Chelmsford and Colchester reports The Thurrock Enquirer.

Attempts to withdraw money using bogus documents were made within hours of him accessing the accounts, said prosecutor Nicola Merrick.

The fraudsters managed to take £135,000 before they were caught. Annan, of Gower Place, Chafford Hundred, worked part time for RBS.

He denies 11 fraud charges relating to £135,500 and an attempted fraud charge concerning a further £2.5 million.

The trial continues.
