NEW figures show that 250 more people in Thurrock are living with diabetes than a year ago and the figure for 2020 is expected to rise by a further 1,600.
The Thurrock Goup meets every month to support local people living with diabetes and raise awareness of the condition. A number of activities throughout the year also raise funds for the benefit of anyone with diabetes locally and donations are also made towards research projects.
Group meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month (except December), at Stifford Clays Social Club, Crammavill Street, Stifford Clays, Grays, Essex RM16 2AP from 7.30pm. The Christmas Social evening on November 28 includes a free buffet and drinks and entertainment by the Thurrock Accordion Band.
Voluntary Group Chairman, Bryan Vandepeer, said: “Anyone is welcome to come to our monthly meetings where you can make friends, share experiences with others and listen to presentations by healthcare professionals as well as asking questions.
With figures on the increase it is even more important to support those living with the condition as well as explaining the risks of Type 2 diabetes to try and prevent the predicted rise.”
