Bonnygate gets green light to expand

PLANS to expand a Thurrock primary school are set to go ahead after Thurrock Council’s cabinet agreed the move on Wednesday (13 November) evening.

Following a consultation which showed most people were in favour of doubling the intake of Bonnygate Primary in South Ockendon from one form of entry (30 pupils) to two, members backed the £1.8 million plan.

Cllr John Kent, education portfolio holder, said: “This is a good school, well regarded locally and this expansion ensures we are providing sufficient places in the area.”

Speaking afterwards he added: “We often say education of young people is our top priority and this is a concrete example of that.“There is £1.8 million to be invested in this school to make sure young people can have the best possible start in life.”
