Volunteers get ready for community café

THIRTY-plus volunteers from Aveley, Grays and Ockendon gathered at Grays Beach Park Café for training on how to run a Community Café.

Some have skills to add to their experience, some just to give back to the community.

The successful Lightship Café is getting ready to open its doors again in January on saturdays with permission from Thurrock Council.

The idea behind the Lightship Café to provide a place where both customers and volunteers feel valued by going the extra mile in serving people and building up their self-esteem in a warm, comfortable environment.

The volunteers running the café plan to offer waiter service and a variety of health options on the menu.

In the run up to opening members of the volunteers team will be upping their skills via the ACE programme run at Thurrock Adult Community College and organised with ngage.

The volunteers are planning to take courses on Food Hygiene amongst others.
