COUNCIL leader, cllr John Kent was in positive mood as he laid recommended plans for extra school places in the borough.
He began by telling cabinet that of the fifteen projects funded only one (Manor Primary) is not complete.
Cllr Kent said: “These works when completed, will create over 1300 extra school places.
“We still have plans for a new primary in west Thurrock area. It may not be on the old allotments area but we continue to explore all options.”
Dep leader, cllr Barbara Rice said: “This demonstrates the Labour groups commitment to education in the borough.”
West Thurrock councillor, Andy Smith also took an opportunity to make political advantage, asking what was the state of pupil place planning before Labour came in, in May 2010.
Cllr Kent said: “There was no pupil place planning when we came in.”
“You could see the results of that when parents could not get their children into schools such as Chafford Hundred.”
