Football: Dockers dig deep for vital point

Ryman Div One North

Cheshunt 0 v 0 Tilbury

AFTER a long break, Tilbury were back in action on a good playing surface at Cheshunt. Paul Vaughan gave debuts to Greg Cohen and Dagenham and Redbridge loanee Harrison Twedell and both played well in a good 0-0 result. In a cautious, but even opening it took 11 minutes for the first real effort that fell to Tilbury when Twedell played in Babalola who hit wide.

A minute later Jake Pooley blocked well to deny the home side. Midway through the half a mistake by Nightingill gave player/manager Omer Riza a great chance to score but blazed wide. Both sides before the break before the break had chances. Just after the break Luke Marshall had his effort well saved y Chico Ramos before Twedell saw his effort just go over.

The clearest chance of the afternoon fell on the hour when Aaron Waters crossed and Babalola from 5 yards somehow hit over in front of goal. In a good spell for the Dockers Cohen had his effort well saved by Bossman. Cheshunt’s best chance of the half fell to Marshall again when Ramos made a double save. A late Cutler 25 yard effort was tipped wide as the teams settled for a hardworking point.

Manager Paul Vaughan was not despondent and said “After a long break, we lacked match fitness but worked hard for the 90 minutes. I was pleased to see the return of Piers Wixon and Joe Christou who have both been out injured.

The result sees Tilbury remain in 15th. Tilbury are back on the road on Tuesday when they travel down to A2 to play Erith and Belevedere.

Team: Ramos, Blackman, Waters (Johnson 90), Nightingill, Pooley, Cohen (Christou 73), Babalola, Gilbey, Twedell (Wixon 69), Cutler and Daniel
