Tories question kitchen contracts, zero hours and council tax complaints!

A NUMBER OF leading Thurrock Tories had a number of searching questions for the portfolio holder for central services, cllr Phil Smith on Wednesday night.

Tory leader, Phil Anderson questioned him on the question of the council kitchen contracts and asked him to specify what the problem was.

Shadow deputy leader, Cllr Rob Gledhill slammed the number of complaints regarding council tax whilst cllr Shane Hebb criticised the council for the number of employees on zero hours contracts.

This last issue seemed to not only anger cllr Smith but also council leader, John Kent who produced a copy of the FOI which reported that in October 2013 there were 12 members of staff on zero hour contracts who were working directly for the council. There were 180 on casual contracts working directly for the council.
