THE PROSPECTIVE parliamentary candidate for Thurrock, Polly Billington (Labour) has slammed the state of The State Cinema.
An area of Grays High Street was cordoned off on Saturday after reports that debris from the building had blown off and landed on the precinct.
Ms Billington, who lives nearby has slammed the condition of the listed building.
She said: “The state of the State Cinema shames us all. I know the council are working hard to find a solution that will result in it being brought back into use for the whole community. That is what we desperately need.
“It now risks becoming a safety hazard, which I suspect those who would like to see it go will use an an excuse to press for its demolition.
“The cinema should be the pride of our town and the neglect that has resulted in the damage over the weekend must end.”
