Update: 0830 hrs
POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a road crash in Tilbury which has left a man critically ill in hospital.
The driver of a silver Vauxhall Astra appears to have lost control of the car while travelling along Fort Road at 7pm on Sunday, February 16 and flipped the car.
The 72-year-old man, who lives locally, sustained a variety of serious injuries and was taken to Royal London Hospital by paramedics where he is currently in a critical, but stable condition.
A section of the road was closed approximately five hours while forensic collision investigators tried to ascertain the cause of the crash.

Update: 2230 hrs
Essex Air Ambulance report: Called at 19.00 to a road traffic accident in West Tilbury where a car had rolled over and into a ditch. Captain Chris Sherriff landed the helicopter in the road near the incident and Dr Lazlo Hetzman and CCP Gary Spitzer treated the man at the scene for suspected spinal injuries.
He was taken to the Royal London Hospital in the land ambulance and escorted by CCP Laurie Philipson.
Update 2200 hrs
Crews used specialist cutting equipment to remove the side and the roof of the car, the casualty was released by 19:55hrs.
Incident: 2040 hrs
Fort Road in West Tilbury closed in both directions between the Cooper Shaw Road junction and the Brennan Road junction, because of an accident.
Essex Fire Service: Fire crews have been called to an RTC involving one car which has left the roadway and gone into a ditch.
One person is trapped and crews are using specialist cutting equipment.
