Bulphan WI: Say it with flowers….

Report by Janet McCheyne

FLOWERS, friends and yummy home-made cake: what more could Bulphan WI members ask for? Our February meeting had a Valentine’s Day theme, as clever Shirley Perkins produced five beautiful flower arrangements, whilst passing on useful tips, and sharing amusing family anecdotes.

Shirley is a WI adviser, but also a very warm and down-to-earth person. She donated all five arrangements, and the materials for a further three do-it-yourself-now-you’ve-seen-how-to-do-it arrangements. We will definitely ask Shirley back another time!

Our afternoon tea and adult panto at Brick Lane Music Hall was brilliant and we’ll be going back next year for the St. George’s Day show. Outings to Thurrock Gang Show, Blitz (a wartime musical), the Inter-WI quiz preliminary round, the Thameside Spring Group Meeting and our Wartime-themed birthday party are all organised. Members had again been generous in donating food for Thurrock Foodbank, and toiletries for George Mills’ humanitarian lorry trip to the Ukraine.

Next month, on Wednesday 12th March at 7.30pm, Elaine Smith, an image and style consultant, will share the secrets of transformation, helping us to feel good inside and out! Which is good!

This year’s programme is on our website (http://bulphanwi.weebly.com) or in our village shop: do come as a visitor, 7.30 until 10 on the second Wednesday of the month in Bulphan Village Hall – we’d love to see you.
