Council praise Ensign Bus Company for coming to the rescue

THURROCK Council’s transport portfolio holder has thanked a local bus firm for “rescuing” people trapped by the shutting down of the Tilbury Ferry last week.

Cllr Andy Smith explained: “There was a problem with the gangway to the ferry at the Tilbury side of the crossing on Friday last week (28 February).”

He said: “As soon as we knew of the problem, which meant the ferry couldn’t run, we contacted Ensign Buses in Purfleet and they provided a shuttle service between Tilbury and Gravesend – and back – for the rest of the day.

“I’d like to thank Ensign for their very prompt action in this case.”

The shuttle service was set up within 15 minutes of the council’s request and made three round trips getting 22 people home who would have had to find alternative routes.

The service is running as usual today (Monday).
