Rotary and church race night raises key funds for Ugandan church

ON Saturday 8th March at St Josephs Hall, Stanford le Hope around 90 racegoers supported this joint venture to raise funds to rebuild the Maternity Unit in Mitala Maria, Uganda.

The evening began with a welcome by Rotary Club President-Karen Sayers-Irving and then Philip Hills (parishioner & Rotary Club member) explained in more detail about the Ugandan project.

This was swiftly followed by an evening of eight races and after minor issues with frisky horses who just wouldn’t get in their stalls, the rest of the evening raced by and a massive £1200 was raised.

This coupled with around £2000 raised at collections after masses at Our Lady & St. Josephs Church left the target of £4k around £800 underfunded…

The Rotary Club of Thurrock Gateway have agreed to donate the short fall of £800…

The Club & Church would like to thank all parishioners, members, friends and family for making the night such a success and building will be underway shortly in Uganda.
