Football: Grays run ends as they crash to Carshalton

Ryman Premier

Grays Athletic 1 v 4 Carshalton Athletic

GRAYS run of five victories in a row came to an end as they went down 4-1 to relegation-threatened Carshalton Athletic.

Grays have been imperious over the last five games but it has taken a lot out of the players and some looked a little weary as they played another hard ninety minutes.

Carshalton broke the deadlock after just five minutes when Kingsley Aikhionbare stroked the ball in from close range. The Surrey side played at a high tempo which troubled the creaking Grays defence and so it was no surprise when the second goal arrived on 13 minutes with a fine individual effort by Billy Dunn.

Grays had a fair shout for a penalty when Joao Carlos went down in the area and soon after, Danny Bunce had a goal disallowed.

In the 42nd minute, it was 3-0 as Bobby Price ran half the pitch, rode a couple of challenges before striking the ball from 20 yards.

Grays made a couple of changes at half time and for a while they threatened as Leroy Griffiths had a chance cleared from the line.

Griffiths did score in the 66th minute with a shot from just outside the box.

The fourth came in the 78th minute when Price grabbed his second.
