Veoila send East Tilbury scouts up the wall!

EAST Tilbury Scouts enjoy their climbing wall (right) thanks to a £4,968 grant from Veolia North Thames Trust (VNTT).

The funding was used to complete the wall with a “fall arresters” safety installation.

Group Scout leader, Richard Scruby, said, “With the Trust’s help we have managed to complete our climbing wall and use it safely with very little effort and less supervision than would be required without that piece of equipment. It has brought into use something that would have been used very little to something used quite regularly by many children now.”

He added, “I would like to put on record our sincere thanks to VNTT for enabling us to supply a fun activity to lots of children who would normally not get this opportunity to explore adventure in a comfortable and safe environment”.

climbDoug Benjafield, Chair of VNTT, said, “The Trustees and I were particularly impressed by the hard work and commitment of the group of East Tilbury Scout leaders. Their dedication enables over 120 6-15 year olds to participate in a wide range of pastimes including crafts, sports, science & botany and cooking – activities that would otherwise be unavailable to many children in this area. I am sure that the local community is extremely grateful to them”.

The climbing wall was one of a number of projects, benefitting from nearly £500,000 of funding between them, which were completed in the last few weeks prior to the recent VNTT meeting. At that meeting, Trustees made a further £435,271 of grants available to assist local projects.
