Belhus 1st XI 239-9
West Essex 1st XI 132
IN the first round of the 45-overs Essex League Cup competition at the Rolls sportsground, Chingford, Belhus produced an outstanding all-round performance. After being put in to bat, the Belhus batsmen racked up a competitive total of 239 for 9 thanks to a fine century (his second of the season) by opener Joe Joyce and a supporting 25 from Wayne Read.
In their run-chase, West Essex were never really in the hunt. Medium-pacer Dan Norris produced a career-best 7 for 34 from his allotted 9 overs to dismiss West Essex for 132 and secure a comfortable victory by 107 runs and take Belhus through to the next round.
Belhus 2nd XI 90
West Essex 2nd XI 91-4
While the Belhus first team were making hay, the Belhus second string were struggling to find any form in their opening match of the season at North Stifford Village Green. Batting first, skipper Mark Sansom’s team could post a total of just 90 as only Stuart Morris reached double figures with a top-score of 30. In reply, West Essex reached their required target quite easily to win by 6 wickets. After gaining promotion in an oustanding season in 2013, this was an uncharacteristic performance by the Saturday 2nd XI who registered their lowest innings total for more than 5 years.
