THURROCK Council leader, John Kent is not a man to make rash decisions and so it is clear that he will take time to analyse what happened in the Thurrock Council elections of 2014.
Labour lost seats in Belhus, Stifford Clays and saw UKIP win five seats across the borough. It means that Labour no longer have overall control of Thurrock Council.
In the early hours, YT spoke to cllr Kent in order to assess how he saw the political landscape of Thurrock mapping out.

Perhaps Yourthurrock should highlight another story following these elections. The continued year on year decline of the thurrock Conservative group. Since the landslide of 2004 the number of Conservatives has dwindled every year. i don’t think they have ever increased the number of councillors.
A very humbled and dignified response from Mr Kent, it will certainly be interesting times to see how the power shift happens in TBC now, will the Barking & Dagenham merger now be put aside once and for all or are we already too deeply embedded with them to reverse it all?
The merger with the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham was only ever a vanity project for the very senior officers of Thurrock Council in order to justify their rather large salaries. I don’t think any of the Labour ruling party really bought into it. It wouldn’t do any harm for Thurrock Council to abandon the idea, but it would seriously annoy the ‘want away’ Chief Executive!
