Ockendon scouts open new extension

THE Ockendon Scout and Guide recently celebrated the opening of their £80,000 extension to their Tamarisk Road, Ockendon Headquarters. The extension has added a large Garage for the Group’s canoe trailer and activity equipment together with a purpose built Committee Room above for Meetings and Activities.

The official opening was at the Group AGM which was attended by 85 people, including representatives of many of the organisations that have assisted the Group with grants to add to the fundraising that has taken place.

During the evening, Chief Scout Gold Awards were presented to Beth Morton-Kemp and Harry Kitchenham for completing a series of challenges and activities as senior members of the Troop.

The Group would like to thank the following organisations who have helped the Group with their funding: B. T., B & Q West Thurrock, Co-Operative Community Fund Manchester, Co-Op Distribution West Thurrock, Essex Community Foundation, Essex Scouts Building Fund, Land Securities, Mardyke Valley Rotary Club, Thurrock Community Chest, Vopak Terminal and Veolia North Thames Trust (who contributed the majority of the Funding). Also a big thank you to H. W. Wilson Ltd. for completing the building work to a very high standard.

Roger Clay, Vice-President of Ockendon Scout & Guide Group, said, “Not only do we need to thank the organisations that have helped with funding but also the Leaders, friends and parents of the Group for all the hard work in getting the Headquarters finished. Ockendon Scout and Guide Group continues to go from strength to strength and allows so many young people to enjoy the various activities and be part of the Scout and Guide Movement”.
