intu Lakeside and Ikea launch competition to bring children’s dreams to life

TO mark Children’s Book Week (30th June – 4th July), intu Lakeside and IKEA are asking children to put pencil to paper and design the best bedroom to read books in – and they could win the chance to see their fantasy become a reality. Whether they’re inspired by JK Rowling’s magical Harry Potter stories or the topsy-turvy Wonderland from Lewis Carroll’s Alice, their imaginations can truly soar as they design the bedroom of their dreams.

As well as enjoying storytelling sessions in their imagined room when it is created at intu Lakeside later this year, the winner will also receive a bedroom makeover at home by IKEA.

“This year we’ve made a commitment to raising awareness of the importance of reading through a charitable partnership with the National Literacy Trust,” comments Izzie Peskett, Regional Marketing Manager for intu. “As the bedroom is typically the place where kids do most of their private reading, we hope this competition will inspire them to revisit many of the dream worlds that they’ve explored through literature, and encourage them to invent new ones, too. We can’t wait to see our shoppers’ reaction to ‘The Ultimate Child’s Bedroom’ when we reveal it in centre this October.”

Lisa Rootes, Head of Partnerships at the National Literacy Trust says: “We’re delighted to be working with intu to further the National Literacy Trust’s work in supporting children and families to develop a lifelong love of reading. Reading opens up a whole new world for children and research shows that reading for pleasure has an impact on their success at school and beyond. Launching ‘the Ultimate Child’s Bedroom Competition’ in Children’s Book Week is a great way to encourage children to celebrate their favourite books and dream up their ideal reading environment.”

The competition is open now and children have until 21st July to submit their designs. Entry forms can be downloaded from intu.co.uk/lakeside or collected from one of the Customer Service Desks in centre.
