SOUTH Essex College’s new Thurrock Campus is now open for business, as students enrol on courses to start in September.
Today (20 August 2014) marked the first day of student enrolment for the Grays town centre Campus.
New and continuing students could sign up for a variety of courses including hairdressing and access to health care. In the coming weeks, enrolment days will take place for subject areas like engineering, sport, art and performing arts.
Jiahui Cao, 16, was the very first student to enrol at the new College. After moving from China, Jiahui is excited to begin his UK education. He now lives in Tilbury and has enrolled on to the City & Guilds entry level certificate in hospitality and catering. Jiahui said: “I chose to study here because it’s close to my new home. The new College looks really good, it’s very modern.”
Hannah Dookhy, 17, from Basildon is starting a Theatrical Special Effects Hair and Media Make-up Level 3 Diploma in September, after completing Level 2 in the old Woodview building. She said: “This course is something I’ve always wanted to do. I’m looking forward to continuing my studies at the new Campus, it’s really big and bright.”

Facilities include specialist workshop and studio spaces linked to courses for technology, media and creative arts. Hair and beauty salons, a restaurant and coffee shop will also be open to the public and are destined to breathe new life into Grays.
