TRACES is an art show taking place in Hadleigh of work by artists across the county working in collaboration. Three Thurrock-based artists are involved – John Espin and Tim Harrold of the High House Artists’ Studios in Purfleet, and Barry Andrews who lives in South Ockendon.
The exhibition and the artwork in it has been organised and commissioned by ENAS (the Essex Network of Artists’ Studios). It is being held in Hadleigh Old Fire Station, now a gallery space and studios. Traces opened on 1st September and will end on the 14th.
The brief was simply to produce a three-dimensional artwork in partnership with someone else to sit on a plinth 90com high and 45cm by 45cm.
Barry, working with someone from the Hadleigh studios, has created a ball of detritus picked up from Rainham Marsh beach. The intention is to comment upon the pollutant plastics that are washed up along the banks of the Thames.
John and Tim’s work is a mixed-media ‘assemblage’ with four scenes so the pice has to be viewed from all sides. There are four themes within the piece but each is related to another through commonalities. They have called the work The Doors of Perception.
