DETECTIVES are investigating an attempted rape of woman in an alleyway behind Webster Road in Stanford-le-Hope.
The incident is believed to have occurred shortly after 12am today, (Tuesday September 16) when a woman in her 30s was grabbed from behind by a man in dark clothing and pushed to the floor. The man grabbed at her clothing which caused it to tear before running off in the direction towards Hassenbrook School.
The victim sustained bruising to her face.
The alleyway has been cordoned off while police carry out a forensic examination.
The offender is described as being a white male, around 5 ft 6 ins tall and wearing a black hooded top with dark jogging bottoms. He appeared intoxicated.
Investigating Officer Di Richard Sage said: "The suspect ran away after hearing voices in the area so I’m keen to speak to anyone who might have been around Websters Road or close by between the hours of 10pm and 1.30am.
"I would encourage anyone who was in the area to come forward and speak to police, any information may contain a vital clue as to who was responsible for this crime .”
