WITH strike action planned by Thurrock bin men, we did wonder how they got to be so unpopular in Thurrock.
We are not saying there was a golden age of Dick Van Dyke like-figures walking down the Thurrock highways and by-ways but most towns seem to have a fairly good nodding relationship with their bin men.
But somewhere down the line, they have become the target of opprobrium in Thurrock.
Was the re-organisation of the system of collection, a tipping point or the start of it. Why were they getting the blame, when it was a bureaucratic decision.
Many people thought that they were dragging their feet with collections.
The bins is a story that affects every single resident in the borough, so it does come sharply into focus.
What do you think?
