THERE were angry scenes at intu Lakeside as people queued for the new iPhone 6.
Essex Police had to be called after many were left disappointed despite queuing up for several hours.
Tempers frayed in the rain as people argued over queue positions.
Some people, who had queued a long time, were told as early as 7.30 am that there were no more iPhone Plus devices left.
A Lakeside spokesman said that they worked closely with Apple to prepare for the launch of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone Plus. He explained that there were around 700 people queuing in good spirits until the weather turned.
"Unfortunately heavy rain meant that many people left the queue and when they returned there was an issue over previously held places. Order was quickly restored by Apple security staff and the police, and our staff made the wait as comfortable as possible by handing out fruit and refreshments.”
A spokeswoman for the Essex police said: "Police were called to the Lakeside shopping centre at around 4am this morning, following reports that some people were being aggressive as they waited outside the store. Officers attended the scene but found that no offences had been committed."
