All in order after reports of man with "bladed weapon" in Lakeside area

POLICE were called shortly before 2pm yesterday, (Sunday November 2) by a member of the public after a man was seen walking along Heron Way with what he thought might be a bladed weapon on his back.

Officers on the ground searched locally and the police helicopter did an aerial search for the man, who was described as aged between 20 and 22.

The man was located shortly before 5pm close to Grays railway station. He was not found to be in possession of an offensive weapon and there was no further police action.

Initial report

THERE are reports of an incident at intu Lakeside this afternoon (Sunday).

YT has had reports from a number of sources of police activity both in the shopping centre and at the Chafford Hundred railway station.

Unconfirmed reports on social media cited an incident in the Mercedes car showroom in Heron Way, Lakeside with "a man dressed in black, wearing a mask and wielding a samurai sword."

Other witnesses say they saw a number of police cars heading to Chafford Hundred railway station.

A police helicopter also hovered over the area.

One of the helicopters later tweeted that they were called to the West Thurrock area and all was in order. But it is not known if that relates to the same alleged incident.
