Rylan switches on intu Lakeside for Christmas

FESTIVE celebrations kicked off in Thurrock this weekend, as celebrity star Rylan Clark joined intu Lakeside to turn on the Christmas lights.

The X Factor and Big Brother star joined the shopping centre on Friday 7th November to switch on the all-important lights, alongside local hero Danial O’Connell, as voted by the general public with a local newspaper.

Rylan made the switch on a family affair as he bought along his Mum and other family members to join in the fun. He added “It was such an honour to be asked to turn on the lights at intu Lakeside, this shopping centre is my playground as I’m a local boy. I’ve worked at intu Lakeside at River Island and Debenhams. It’s an absolute pleasure to be here tonight to turn the lights on”

Nominated local hero Danial added “I was really surprised to hear that I’d been nominated as a local hero, I really didn’t expect it. Along with a couple of colleagues I we were simply looking help people in a difficult situation with Operation Welcome Home. It was great to be a part of the Christmas Light Switch On.”

The day also saw Santa’s highly anticipated arrival with a Santa Parade during the day for younger shoppers to enjoy. Santa will now be at intu Lakeside every day until Christmas Eve, in his Grotto for children to visit free of charge.

Other entertainment on the day included stilt walkers and roller skating reindeers, as well as free hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts for all visitors.

Donna Callander, marketing manager at intu Lakeside said “What a great night our Christmas Light Switch On was. We’re really starting to get in the festive spirit at intu Lakeside with our Christmas lights now on and Santa in his Grotto. We hope to welcome lots of shoppers over the next few weeks to get that Christmas shopping done before the big day!”

There are more great activities taking place at intu Lakeside this month. Black Friday, the American based giant sales day, will see great discounts and promotions across the centre including Levi’s offering customers 30% off. The event takes place on Friday 28th November and provides bargain hunters even more reasons to head to intu Lakeside to purchase Christmas gifts or treats for themselves.
