ONLY one endurance athlete was in action this weekend. Jason Syrett
travelled to the north of the County to race in the Stebbing 10. The
journey was worthwhile because he recorded a pb of 67m17s to finish
50th in the 500 strong field. Jason is now 47 years old and can take a
good deal of satisfaction from his continuing improvement.

This weekend, the 2nd round of the cross country league is being held
at Hylands Park, Chelmsford. The Club will be striving to fill full
teams in all 11 categories. Not many Clubs actually achieve this.
Thurrock’s strongest teams are in the under 13s categories where both
teams finished 2nd in the first round match at One Tree Hill. They were
beaten only by the out of County team Cambridge and Coleridge.
The under 17 mens team can feature strongly provided they can finish a
full team of 4.
The Club’s veterans teams are strong and should feature in the male and
female categories. Senior mens team are banking on fielding more
runners capable of finishing in the first 50 this time. Only top
veteran, Scott Rice, achieved this in the first round.
Individually Gemm Holloway, a winner last time, and Harry Parker,
Hayley Instance, and Leon Wheeler, all under 13, are capable of top 3
finishes.
