Rugby: Stanford Rugby round-up

Stanford RFC weekly round up.

Stanford 2nd XV keep to winning ways.

Stanford 2s (24) – Old Brentwoods (0) Away win

Stanford’s 2nd XV travelled to Old Brentwoods on Saturday buoyed by the excellent win the weekend before spirits were high and an almost unchanged side took to the field.

The mix of youth and experience was to give Stanford the upper hand and from the very start they showed how far they have come this season. Hard rucking and mauling good distribution to the backs and an encouragement throughout the team saw every player step and make their mark. Tries came from the forwards power players, keeping the ball alive in the tight and edging the hard yards over the Old B’s line.

The backs were not to be out done with pace on their wings and centres that can cut a good attacking line they also contributed to the score line. Stanford’s defence held firm under pressure from Old B’s and they managed to keep their hosts away from the own try line. Stanford’s try scorers were; Ryan Nelson (2) Wayne Leech and Sony Smith. Matt Rumble added two conversions. Stanford’s players of the match were Max Murphy and Aaron Smith.

Stanford 2’s host newly formed and top of the league Mavericks next week at the Rec 2:30 kick off.
