Self service set to be launched in libraries

ESSEX County Council Library Services has announced an upgrade to their self-service machines, which will start this summer.

Great Baddow Library will close for one day Tuesday 21st January 2014 while the machines are updated. The new machines will take advantage of more advanced technology and will be able to accept payment, in both coins and notes, and to give change.

Since self-service machines were installed in Essex libraries they have been well received by library users. Situated next to the Express Zone (the stand alone displays of new and popular stock), they are perfect for the library user who needs to select and check out items in a hurry. The new machines will allow library users to settle any library fines and pay for DVDs and other charged items at the same time as checking out their loan items.

County Councillor Roger Hirst, Cabinet Member for Libraries, Communities and Planning said: “Self-service machines have been well received by library users and they are a great example of how libraries in Essex are moving with the times. We are confident that the new machines will make borrowing items from Essex libraries quicker and more convenient.”
