A LOCAL charity is calling for people to hold a ‘Bit of a Do’ to raise money for the care it provides to children who are seriously ill.
Little Havens Hospice is asking its supporters in the community to organise a fundraising ‘Bit of a Do’ this year. The event could be anything from a bake off or quiz to a gala ball or pamper day, and could take place at home, work or school. The campaign will raise money for the charity which helps seriously ill babies, children and teenagers, and their families, from Basildon, Wickford, Billericay, Thurrock and across Essex. The hospice helps by controlling pain and medication, offering respite and caring at the end of their lives, both at the hospice in Thundersley and in families own homes.
The charity’s campaign is supported by Jo Wheatley, winner of Great British Bake Off 2011, who said, “As a mum and nan myself, I cannot imagine the impact a life-limiting illness can have on a family. But at least with Little Havens Hospice, they have somewhere to turn. Little Havens looks after every need of the children and those close to them for as long as it’s needed. And, amazingly, this care is completely free of charge. But they need our help to make sure this can continue happening.
“By taking part in a ‘Bit of a Do’ you can have fun whilst you’re fundraising and every penny will be helping families across Essex who rely on the specialist care of Little Havens Hospice. From a cake sale, coffee morning, school quiz or pamper day, whatever you choose to do, you’ll be making every day count. Please have a ‘Bit of a Do’ and help Little Havens Hospice today.”
Peter Hall, Community Fundraiser for Little Havens Hospice, said, “I can’t wait to hear all about the different ‘Dos’ that people in the community are planning to raise money for their local children’s hospice. This new campaign is a brilliant way for anybody to get involved with fundraising, as any ‘Bit of a Do’, big or small, is a great way to have fun and raise money for the care we provide to local families.”
