Why is a Thurrock Council top boss "advertising" he has left (when he hasn’t)

A SENIOR Thurrock Council officer has set the record straight on why he stated on social media that he had left Thurrock Council four months ago, when in fact he had not.

Former Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (DC) employee, Mike Hursthouse joined Thurrock Council in April 2012 having been transferred over from the much-maligned government quango.

Mr Hursthouse, who is believed to be on a salary in excess of £80,000 a year, is an assistant director of resources at the civic offices.

Over the past year, YT understands that as well as his very demanding role in finance, he has become involved in a number of voluntary organisations such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, Thurrock Healthwatch, the High House Production Park and the Council for Voluntary Services.

But if you read Mr Hursthouse’s Linkedin page, that would all appear to be a thing of the past as it states that he left Thurrock Council in October 2014.

The senior officer’s page states that since October he is self-employed:

It states: "Part time FD role: business planning, budgeting, governance, management & statutory accounts (SORP compliant), financial planning, treasury, general advice & guidance

"Consultancy: systems review & implementation, project management, change management."

LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking service. It is mainly used for professional networking

A Thurrock Council spokesperson said: "Mr Hursthouse started updating his profile when his position was first at risk, but when he was told he still had a position at the council, at least temporarily, he stopped, leaving it unfinished.

"However he has now updated his profile in anticipation of seeking employment elsewhere again."

YT checked his Linkedin status at 0800 hrs on 27.01.2015 and it still stated that he had left Thurrock Council.
