A BOOK appeal has been launched by staff at South Essex College to get people reading.
The Learning Resource Centre team across the College’s three campuses in Basildon, Southend and Thurrock is appealing for donations of fiction and non-fiction books to give away as part of a reading challenge.
Books of any genre will be greatly appreciated, but they must be suitable for 16-19-year-olds.
The team hopes donations of books people no longer wish to keep will enable them to launch a book swap scheme to get students reading for pleasure.
Ashley Dole, Learning Centre Co-ordinator, appealed for people to have a sort out of their bookshelves.
She said: “This scheme is aimed at getting students to read for pleasure, especially those who may not do so otherwise.
“We have a great range of educational books at our LRCs, but we want to encourage students to read for pleasure too.
“Many people read a book once and then leave it to collect dust on their shelves, so this is a great way to reuse and recycle.”
If you have any books you wish to donate, they will be gratefully received at the reception of the College’s Basildon, Southend and Thurrock campuses.
