COMMUNITY leaders and local politicians were out and about in Stanford-le-Hope and Corringham at the weekend as part of the "Save Our Libraries" campaign.

Over in Corringham, community champion, Julia Sorrels-Wilde was out with hard working Ukip councillor, Roy Jones as well as community pastor at St Margaret’s church in Stanford, Maureen McPherson and numerous volunteers whilst Labour candidate for Stanford West, Ella Vine was also out in King Street and surrounding areas campaigning.

A spokesperson said: "The local community were eager to sign, and very vocal on losing their library service.

"One lady wheelchair user, said that she was a regular library user, and was also concerned regarding the possibility of losing the only accessible toilet in Corringham town centre.

"Two young lads told one of the volunteers that they use the Library every evening and most weekends as the say that they feel safe in the library doing their homework".

The Library consultation comes to an end on Feb 15th, 2015. There are petitions in most local shops in Stanford, Corringham and across the borough wide.
