THE development arm of construction and engineering giant Kier Group has acquired a new £8m Thurrock site to develop into 241,000 sq ft of industrial and warehousing space.
Kier Property said work is expected to start on the ten-acre site at Motherwell Way, West Thurrock, in summer 2015, subject to planning approvals.
Around 3.5 acres will be developed under the company’s Trade City brand, offering 76,000 sq ft of trade counter, light industrial units. The remaining 6.5 acres will be developed into 165,000 sq ft of logistical space over four larger sized units.
The Trade City concept offers high quality accommodation for light industrial, warehousing and trade counter units throughout the UK. It has now delivered more than two million sq ft of industrial space nationwide.
Kier Property director Phil Sutton said: "This is a strategic site acquisition as we continue to grow the business in line with Kier’s Vision 2020. The total site will deliver 241,000 sq ft of industrial and warehousing space and demonstrates to the industrial market our ambition to raise our profile of logistics sites in the mid box arena.
"This latest acquisition in Thurrock provided a strategic opportunity to secure a prime development opportunity for the industrial and distribution market, adding to our existing portfolio of logistics sites in Reading, Frimley and Wakefield. Locally there is strong demand and limited supply so we are confident of the development’s success."
